Cuauhtémoc ("the eagle that descends on its prey" in Nahuatl), named after the last Aztec emperor, is a three-masted barque flying the Mexican flag.
Built in Bilbao in 1982, she is owned by the Mexican Navy, which uses her as a training ship. She is a symbol in Mexico, illustrating the spirit of fighting spirit and independence, in reference to the emperor Cuauhtémoc. Cuauhtémoc is featured on the bow of the ship.
She has sister ships, the Guayas (Ecuador), the Gloria (Colombia) and the Simon Bolivar (Venezuela).
