The Rupel was built on the banks of the River Rupel by young unemployed people and launched in 1996.
The project to build this gaff-rigged schooner enabled these young people to acquire skills that would make it easier for them to find a job.
In summer, Le Rupel sails along the Belgian coastline and takes part in the Tall Ships' Races and other events in Northern Europe.
