The STS Fryderyk Chopin is the youngest of Poland's large ships. She was built between 1990 and 1992 at the "Dora" shipyard in Gdansk, for the Class Afloat International Foundation, based on an original idea by its president, Captain Krzysztof Baranowski, and his colleague and deputy, Captain Ziemowit Baranski. The ship was designed by Zygmunt Choren, creator of the Pogoria and Dar Mlodziezy.

The ship has been owned by the European School of Law and Administration in Warsaw since 2000. Today, the STS Fryderyk Chopin is a training ship for maritime schools in the Baltic as well as apprenticeship programmes for all sailing enthusiasts.
