Aluminium Dunkerque

Virtuous aluminium for a sustainable world

France's last major primary aluminium plant, Aluminium Dunkerque specialises in the manufacture of sheet and ingots in a wide variety of alloys for high value-added applications in the automotive, transport and packaging sectors in particular.

A major player in the production of primary aluminium, the production site has been based at Loon-Plage in northern France since 1991, at the heart of an area that is now strongly committed to decarbonising its industries.

The plant comprises 4 sectors:

  • Carbon, which manufactures anodes
  • Electrolysis, where primary aluminium is produced
  • Foundry, which casts plates and ingots
  • Maintenance, which looks after the upkeep and operation of the site's utilities.

As one of the world leaders in low-carbon aluminium production, Aluminium Dunkerque has reduced its emissions (scope 1,2) by 17% since 2013 and emits four times less greenhouse gases than the global average for the sector.

On the strength of these assets, the company intends to play a major role in the European production of low-carbon aluminium for the benefit of its customers and communities. It is accelerating its energy and environmental transition as part of an ambitious decarbonisation project called LowCAl for Low Carbon Aluminium.
